New Zealand star batter Kane Williamson has come out in support of Babar Azam, saying that the Pakistan batter is a part of the Fab Four of Fab Five. He highlighted Babar’s ability to perform under pressure across formats and called him a world-class player.

Babar has been inconsistent over the last 18 months and was even dropped from the Test team for two games against England last year. In the tri-series opener between Pakistan and New Zealand, Babar scored 10 runs off 23 balls as the Men in Green suffered a 78-run defeat.

“Babar Azam is a part of the Fab Four or Fab Five, which consists of some of the finest batters in the world. Babar is a world-class batter, who is a consistent performer for his team,” he said, as quoted by CricketPakistan.pk.

Babar, who has amassed 31 hundreds in international cricket, hasn’t scored a ton since May 23. The management has promoted him as an opener in the ongoing assignment against New Zealand and South Africa. It is expected that he will open the innings with Fakhar Zaman in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Saim Ayub was the designated opener, but the batter has been ruled out due to a leg injury, forcing the decision-makers to urge Babar to bat as an opener.
