Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan was expected to get a call-up for Australia T20Is after he piled up 516 runs in IPL 2020 but Sanju Samson was picked over him.

Youngster Ishan Kishan has inched closer to a national selection by clearing BCCI’s 2-km fitness test. The 23-year-old batsman dropped an update, on social media, regarding the same. Notably, his post came just a few hours after a report suggested that he was among the cricketers who flunked the test.

According to the Times of India, he and five other players had failed the test. The report also suggested that the players would be given a second chance as it’s a new test. It isn’t known whether the Mumbai Indians batsman passed it in the first go or in the second attempt.

Ishan Kishan was expected to get a call-up for Australia T20Is after he piled up 516 runs in IPL 2020 – most by an uncapped player in the history of the tournament. However, Sanju Samson was picked over him on the basis of seniority.

However, Samson is likely to get dropped for the upcoming five-match series against England. He had below-par IPL 2020 campaign and he also managed to score just 48 runs in three T20Is against Australia. There is no word on whether Samson has cleared the test.

Rishabh Pant, who is currently part of the Test team, will also be in contention for a place in the white-ball squad. It remains to be seen whether Pant will get the nod over his former U-19 captain.

Apart from Kishan, pacers Jaydev Unadkat and Siddarth Kaul have also cleared the fitness test. Undakt last played for India in 2018 while Kaul last featured for the Men in Blue before the 2019 World Cup. Both are in contention for the white-ball fixtures as the first-choice pacers are likely to be rested.
