Glenn Phillips rose to the occasion and resurrected the innings by scoring his 2nd T20I century. The 25-year-old amassed 104(64) and won the player of the match award for his performance.
New Zealand put 167 on the board, requiring Lanka to chase 168 in 20 overs. In reply, the batters were disappointing and were 4 down for just 8 runs.
Trent Boult picked up four wickets and New Zealand bowled out Sri Lanka for just 102 runs.
