Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir recently shared his thoughts on the coveted role of captaincy in cricket. In a candid conversation, he emphasized the honor associated with leading Team India and expressed his eagerness to embrace such a role, had the opportunity presented itself.

Gambhir’s insights shed light on the pride and responsibility that come with captaining a team like India.

“Is there any cricketer in the world who would refuse team India’s captaincy? Show me an individual or a cricketer in the whole history who has refused captaincy. After captaining the side and receiving results, they quit captaincy but upfront no one would refuse an offer to captain a side. I don’t think so,” he said.

Delving deeper into his viewpoint, Gambhir lauds the significance of captaining India in any field, not just cricket. He believes that leading the Indian team, regardless of the sport, is an unparalleled honor.

“Captaining India is a honour. Leading India in any field is an honour. Even if it is any sport,” he continued.

The former cricketer revealed his personal desire to lead Team India. He candidly states that if he had been offered the captaincy after winning the Indian Premier League (IPL), he would have gladly accepted the opportunity.

“If I was asked after winning the IPL, I would have happily taken Team India’s captaincy. Anyone in my position also would want to grab the opportunity and showcase their leadership skills to the world. Whatever happened after that is irrelevant,” he concluded.
