Virat Kohli-led India lost by eight wickets at the hands of Australia in the opening game of Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Adelaide Oval. Batting first, the visitors were in a commanding position at 188 for 3 in the first innings when miscommunication between Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli turned the tables in Australia’s favour.

After the early dismissals of Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal, the India skipper stitched a crucial partnership of 88 runs with the 32-year-old batsman on the first day. But Rahane’s poor call for a quick single ended Kohli’s brilliant innings.

Opening up on the incident ahead of the Boxing Day Test, Rahane admitted that Kohli’s wicket shifted the momentum towards Aussies as it triggered batting collapse.

Rahane recently revealed that he apologized to Virat Kohli for his terrible mix-up in the pink-ball match.

“It was a tough one. Obviously, we were going really well at the moment. The partnership was really good. I could actually see the momentum going towards Australia after the run-out,” Rahane said in a virtual press conference on Friday.

“After the end of day’s play, I went to Virat and said sorry. But he was all okay about it. We both understood the situation we were in then, we were going really well. But such things happen in cricket. You respect that and move forward.”
