Karun Nair continues to impress. After a sensational run in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and a strong showing in the Ranji Trophy, Nair has made a powerful return to the IPL in 2025 after a three-year absence. Nair was bought by Delhi Capitals for his base price of INR 50 lakh in the mega auction, with his outstanding domestic season playing a significant part in his inclusion.
In a chase of 205 against Mumbai Indians, the right-handed batter scored a brilliant 89. He nearly led his team to victory, but his dismissal, followed by a heartbreaking collapse in the final overs, which saw three run-outs, ended their hopes. Despite the loss, Nair had done enough to secure his place in the playing XI for the upcoming matches. In the dressing room, Capitals head coach Hemang Badani praised Nair for his outstanding performance and emphasised his persistence throughout the season.

“This lad hasn’t played in the IPL for the last three years. He’s scored 9 First-Class hundreds this year alone. He was really itching for a chance. He kept asking me, ‘When am I going to get a game?’ Even in the nets, Karun Nair would request a bit more time in the middle. His eagerness to play was something special,” Hemang Badani said.
The right-handed batter is in great form, having last played for India eight years ago. Despite his triple hundred against England, he failed to cement his place. Nair is 33 and his return to international cricket is uncertain, but his strong performances in domestic cricket and the IPL is likely to put pressure on the national selection committee.
The 48-year-old praised Nair’s performance. “He batted well for the Delhi Capitals. Karun Nair was positive and batted aggressively. Excellent job and a great approach.”
