Former India player Aakash Chopra has said that Virat Kohli has fallen behind the other three players in the ‘Fab Four’ category in terms of Test centuries. He mentioned that former England captain Joe Root has scored a lot of Test centuries in the last three years.
Kohli, Root, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson are the members of the Fab Four group. While Root has left everyone behind in the last few years, the other three have been at their best.
“We will talk about the Fab Four because Root is unstoppable and Williamson has also returned to form. Kohli was no.1 with 27 centuries in 2021. Steve Smith was at 26, while Kane had amassed 24. Joe Root’s century count was 17,” Aakash Chopra said.
“Since then, Root has scored 19 more hundreds. He now has 36. There are still matches remaining in 2024. I know he plays a bit more Tests but 19 tons are unreal. Virat Kohli is last on the list with 30 centuries,” he added.
Kohli has scored 1845 runs at an average of 33.54 in 33 Test matches since the beginning of 2021. On the other side, Root has managed 5063 runs at an average of 56.25 in 54 red-ball matches in the same period.
“Virat has scored only three tons in the last four years, the third one came in the first Test against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Steve Smith has struck six hundreds and he is at 32 Kane WilliamSon is joint-second with 32 Test centuries after hitting eight hundreds. Joe Root is on a different level. He is doing God-level batting in Test cricket.”
