D’Árcy Short will replace the injured Glenn Maxwell in the Australian squads for one-day international and Twenty20 series in South Africa.

Cricket Australia on Wednesday said Maxwell would undergo surgery to his left elbow. It said the pain that Maxwell had experienced during the domestic T20 competition had increased during the weekend, and scans revealed some loose fragments of bone within his elbow joint.

Maxwell will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Thursday and is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

Australia will play T20s on Feb. 21 (Johannesburg), Feb. 23 (Port Elizabeth) and Feb. 26 (Cape Town). The three ODIs are scheduled for Feb. 29 in Paarl, March 4 in Bloemfontein and March 7 in Potchefstroom.
