Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has criticized Royal Challenger Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli for his lack of involvement within the Bangalore based outfit.

As a captain, Virat Kohli has had numerous accolades to his name, including India’s first-ever Test series win in Australia in 2018-19.

The 30-year-old has also managed to maintain a healthy win % as an Indian skipper, across all formats. However, winning an Indian Premier League title with RCB hasn’t been a cup of team.

“Firstly, Virat has been captaining RCB since 2016. So, if the team lacked balance, he should’ve been involved and acted earlier,” Gambhir said during an interaction with Star Sports.

In 2016, RCB topped the tables and reached the final for the third time in the tournament’s history (2008, 2011, 2016). However, it wasn’t third time lucky for RCB as they lost out to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.

Gambhir added that the team has always looked batting heavy but cited that the change in venue could bring the best out of the RCB bowlers.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the 13th edition of the IPL will be played in the United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi). UAE is known for its slow tracks and turning conditions.

After Australian pacer Kane Richardson decided to pull out from the squad, RCB announced the acquisition of Aussie spinner Adam Zampa, who holds the record of taking six wickets in an IPL match.

Zampa’s partnership with Yuzvendra Chahal will be a massive factor in RCB’s title ambitions.
