When Krunal Pandya got his ODI cap in the series opener between India and England in Pune on Tuesday, it became the fourth instance of two pairs of brothers playing in the same one-day international on opposite sides. Let’s take a look at the instances when two pairs of brothers played against each other in the fifty-over format of the game.

Krunal (30 years) and Hardik (27 years) were fielded by India. England played Tom (26) and Sam (22). While Hardik scored just 1, Krunal scored an unbeaten 31-ball 58 on debut. Krunal also broke the record for the fastest ODI fifty ever scored on debut. He also holds the record for the best strike rate on ODI debut – 187.09.

The Curran brothers failed to take even a single wicket. In the run chase, Krunal took one wicket while Hardik didn’t bowl. While Sam scored 12 runs, Tom accumulated 11 runs, as England lost the game by 66 runs.

Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal vs Michael Hussey and David Hussey

Kamran and Umar have done well for Pakistan.

The Akmals played against the Hussey brothers in two consecutive ODIs in the UAE. In the first match of the series on August 28, 2012, Australia defeated Pakistan by 4 wickets after dismissing Pakistan for 198 runs. Umar scored 52, while Kamran managed 4 runs in the game. David and Michael were dismissed for 3 and 5 respectively.

In the second game in Abu Dhabi on August 31, 2012, Pakistan thumped Australia by 7 wickets. Michael scored an impressive 61 while David departed without troubling the scorers, as Australia scored 248/9 in 50 overs. The Akmal brothers were not required as Pakistan won the game in 43.4 overs.

Steve and Mark were exceptional for Australia.

The Waughs and Flowers played key roles in leading their respective teams to triumphs in international cricket. Mark was a classical batsman and Steve contributed as a player and skipper for Australia. Andy and Grant were the backbones of Zimbabwe’s batting order across formats. The flower twins played against the Waugh brothers in 10 one-day internationals.

Surinder Amarnath & Mohinder Amarnath vs Sadiq Mohammad & Mushtaq Mohammad

Surinder Amarnath and Mohinder Amarnath 

Surinder Amarnath & Mohinder Amarnath, sons of the India legend Lala Amarnath came up against Sadiq Mohammad & Mushtaq Mohammad in Sialkot on October 13, 1978 in the match of the ODI series.  Mushtaq was the skipper of Pakistan and asked India to bat first after winning the toss. India were dismissed for just 79 runs in 34.2 overs. Surinder was run-out after scoring 1 and his brother Mohinder top-scored for India with an unbeaten 34.

Sadiq who opened the batting for Pakistan was dismissed by Kapil Dev for 1. Mushtaq didn’t come out to bat as Pakistan completed the run chase in 16.5 overs.
