Rajasthan Royals overcame the Sunrisers Hyderabad in match number 28 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season on Sunday. The win helped RR get to six points and enhance their hopes in terms of a playoffs qualification.
England batsman Jos Buttler smashed a terrific century, amassing 124 runs with the bat. His brilliance helped RR amass a majestic 220/3 in 20 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Skipper Sanju Samson too played a crucial role.
RR went on to post 42/1 in the powerplay overs after Yashasvi Jaiswal departed early. From there on, Buttler and Sanju Samson stitched a solid 150 runs for the second wicket. Buttler’s heroics helped RR get past the 200-run mark.
In reply, a David Warner-less SRH were never in the chase. Their poor batting line-up failed to get close to the target, losing by a staggering 55-run mark. The SRH lost wickets at regular intervals as the RR bowlers stood tall. SRH failed to register their sixth loss of the campaign.
Buttler slams maiden ton
Buttler’s carnage saw him hit a 64-ball 124. He registered 11 fours and eight sixes and had a strike rate of 193.75. This was Buttler’s maiden IPL ton. The senior England cricketer is now the third centurion of IPL 2021 after Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal. He also became the seventh player to surpass 250 runs this season. Buttler now has a total of 1,968 runs in the IPL at an average of 35.14.

Buttler’s 124-run knock is now the highest by a Rajasthan Royals batsman in the tournament’s history. This is also the second-highest score versus SRH by any batsman in the IPL. He is now the sixth different centurion for RR in the IPL.
Samson smashes these feats
RR captain Sanju Samson scored a 33-ball 48. Samson now has 2,861 runs in the IPL at 28.89. He has gone past the mark of Parthiv Patel (2,848) and is now the 20th-highest scorer in the IPL. Interestingly, Samson is now the fifth batsman to get past 500 runs against SRH in the IPL (533).
He is also the third-highest scorer against SRH. He is now the fourth-highest scorer this season (277).
Partnership record for Buttler and Samson
Buttler and Samson added a superb 150-run stand for the second wicket. Their stand is now the highest partnership for RR against SRH. It’s also the second-highest partnership for the second wicket by any side against the Sunrisers in the IPL. This was the 18th century-plus stand for RR in the IPL. It’s RR’s second-highest stand for any wicket in the IPL.
200-plus total for RR
The Royals surpassed the 200-run mark for the 11th time in the IPL. Notably, RR registered their third-highest team total in the competition. This is RR’s highest ever score against SRH as well. Their previous best score against SRH was 198/2.

Chris Morris (3/29) has 14 wickets in IPL 2021 (second-highest). Morris has 94 IPL scalps at 22.79. He has now gone past Mohit Sharma and Shane Watson’s tally (92 each). Rashid Khan (1/24) has 85 wickets and equalled the tally of Albie Morkel.
