The 27th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season was a run-feast. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians scored 437 runs between them in what was a high-scoring thriller in Delhi. IPL 2021 table-toppers Chennai Super Kings were stunned by the Mumbai Indians as a one-man show by Kieron Pollard made the difference.
After being put in to bat, CSK posted a mammoth 218/4. The likes of Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, and Amabati Rayudu slammed respective fifties. CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early on before Faf and Moeen stitched a partnership of 108 runs.
The two batsmen then departed in quick succession as Suresh Raina was also sent back. CSK were reduced to 116/4 at one stage. However, Amabati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja added 102 runs for the fifth wicket.
MI started strongly as the openers put up 71 runs. CSK hit back to reduce MI to 81/3. From here on Pollard played a blinder for MI and took his side home. He smashed 87 from just 34 balls, clubbing eight sixes along the way. MI won by four wickets.

Faf du Plessis smashes 4th successive fifty
Senior Chennai batsman Faf was superb with the bat. His consistency is something that bodes well for Chennai. The right-handed opening batsman scored a 28-ball 50. Faf hit two fours and four sixes. Notably, the Proteas ace notched his fourth straight fifty in IPL 2021. His scores in IPL 2021 read: 0, 36*, 33, 95*, 50, 56, and 50.
Faf hits 20th IPL fifty
The senior star player has now become the third batsman to surpass 300 runs this season (320). He has an aggregate of 2,622 runs at an average of 34.96. Faf has accumulated 20 IPL fifties. The right-handed batsman has gone past former CSK opener Murali Vijay (2,619) in terms of runs and is now the 24th-highest scorer in the IPL.
Rayudu smashes joint-second fastest fifty for CSK
Veteran Indian batsman Ambati Rayudu got a breezy 27-ball 72* at the Kotla. The middle-order batsman hit four fours and seven sixes. Rayudu now has 3,795 runs in the IPL at an average of 29.64. He has registered 20 fifties, including six for CSK. Interestingly, Rayudu scored his fifty off just 20 balls. He has now hit the joint-second fastest fifty for CSK.
Rohit gets past 475 fours
MI captain Rohit Sharma amassed a 24-ball 35. He hit four fours and a six. The senior Indian cricketer now has 5,480 runs in the competition. Rohit has breached the mark of 475 fours in the IPL (476). He has become just the sixth player to hit 475-plus fours in the competition. Meanwhile, Rohit has also become just the third player to get past the 750-run mark against Chennai. He has scored 752 runs.
A poor outing for Bumrah
MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah claimed one wicket for 56 runs. The T20 star has now clocked his worst bowling figures in the IPL. His previous worst tally came against DC in 2015, where he conceded 55 runs.
Pollard-storm greets Delhi
Mumbai Indians’ veteran ace Kieron Pollard was brilliant with both bat and ball. He claimed two scalps (2/12) and now has 63 wickets in the IPL, equaling Muttiah Muralitharan’s tally.
Pollard then smashed a 17-ball fifty. He now has the fastest fifty in IPL 2021. Pollard has now hit the fifties off 17 balls on two occasions (also vs KKR in 2016).
Interestingly, this is now the joint-fastest fifty for MI in the IPL.
Pollard surpasses Kohli’s sixes record and smashed his 16th half-century in the IPL
The big-hitting West Indian hit eight sixes against CSK. He now has 211 maximums in the IPL. Pollard has the fifth-highest number of sixes in the IPL, surpassing Virat Kohli’s tally (205). Pollard now has the most sixes against CSK in the IPL. He has gone past Kohli (35) in this regard.
CSK, MI slam these records
CSK smashed their sixth-highest total in the IPL. This was their highest IPL total against Mumbai. For the 19th time, CSK went on to amass in excess of 200-plus runs in the IPL. Meanwhile, MI have recorded the second-highest chase in IPL history. They also posted their second-highest score in the IPL and a best against CSK. This was the 15th time MI posted a 200-plus score in the IPL.
