Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Gujarat Titans (GT) by 15 runs in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, May 23. Batting first, CSK put up 172/7 and then held the defending champions to 157. With the win, Chennai reached their 10th IPL final. Here are the player ratings for Qualifier 1.
Chennai Super Kings
Ruturaj Gaikwad (9.5/10): Top-scored for CSK with a fine 60 off 44 balls. Struck seven fours and a six. Dominated an opening stand of 87 before being dismissed by Mohit Sharma. Took a brilliant catch to dismiss Vijay Shankar.
Devon Conway (6/10): Scored 40, but struggled to score at a good pace. Got his runs off 34 balls and hit only four boundaries. Could not build on the start and was dismissed by Mohammed Shami, mistiming a big hit.
Ajinkya Rahane (4/10): Registered another failure. Scored 17 off 10 with the aid of a six. Fell to Darshan Nalkande.
Ambati Rayudu (5/10): Looked dangerous, striking a six and a four. But fell in his endeavor to go after Rashid Khan for 17 off 9 balls.
Shivam Dube (0.5/10): Perished for 1. Was cleaned up by Noor Ahmad.
Ravindra Jadeja (9.5/10): Contributed a handy 22 off 16. Hit two fours before being cleaned up by Mohammed Shami. Excelled with the ball. Got the big wickets of Dasun Shanaka and David Miller, finishing with wonderful figures of 2/18.
MS Dhoni (0.5/10): Fell for 1 in his attempt to strike a big hit.
Deepak Chahar (9/10): Starred with the ball once again. Dismissed Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill, both perishing to the pull. Finished his spell with wonderful figures of 2/29.
Tushar Deshpande (4/10): Was expensive. Finished with figures of 1/43 from four overs.
Maheesh Theekshana (9/10): Also made a big impact with the ball to keep Gujarat on the backfoot. Forced Hardik Pandya into playing a poor stroke and cleaned Rahul Tewatia, who missed a good length ball.
Matheesha Pathirana (7/10): Picked up to wickets towards the end of the innings. Finished with figures of 2/37.
Gujarat Titans
Shubman Gill (7.5/10): Tried to anchor another chase and played a defiant knock. Scored 42 off 38, hitting four fours and a six. Fell to Deepak Chahar in his attempt to up the ante, pulling the pacer to deep square leg.
Wriddhiman Saha (3/10): Perished cheaply again. Was out for 12 off 11, mistiming a pulling off Deepak Chahar.
Hardik Pandya (2/10): Failed with the bat yet again. Scored eight and cut a short of a length delivery from Maheesh Theekshana to backward point.
Dasun Shanaka (4/10): Got a start, but failed to convert it. Struck one four and a six in his 17 off 16. Perished to Ravindra Jadeja, looking for a reverse hit.
David Miller (2/10): Scored 4 off 6 balls. Was cleaned up Ravindra Jadeja.
Vijay Shankar (3/10): Was out for 14, attempting a big hit.
Rahul Tewatia (1.5/10): Was bowled for 3 as he completely missed a good length ball from Maheesh Theekshana.
Rashid Khan (8/10): Got the wicket of Ambati Rayudu, but was slightly expensive, going for 37 runs in his four overs. Contributed 30 off 16 with the bat.
Darshan Nalkande (3/10): Dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad with a no ball. Got the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane, but proved to be extremely expensive in the final analysis. Ended with figures of 1/44.
Mohit Sharma (8.5/10): Impressed yet again. Broke the opening stand by getting the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad. Also added the scalp of MS Dhoni and finished with figures of 2/31.
Noor Ahmad (7.5/10): Got the wicket of Shivam Dube, cleaning up the dangerous hitter. Was economical and conceded only 29 runs in his four overs.
Mohammed Shami (9/10): Once again was GT’s best bowler. Dismissed Devon Conway and Ravindra Jadeja. Ended with very good figures of 2/28.
