Punjab Kings (PBKS) beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven runs on (D/L) method in match number two of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Saturday, April 1. Sent into bat first after losing the toss, PBKS posted 191/5 as Bhanuka Rajapaksa top-scored with 50, while skipper Shikhar Dhawan contributed 40. Defending the total, Arshdeep Singh picked up three wickets as Kolkata were restricted to 146/7 in 16 overs. Punjab Kings

Shikhar Dhawan (8/10): Scored 40 in only 29 balls. Hit six fours and featured in a second-wicket stand of 86 with Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

Prabhsimran Singh (6/10): Began the innings in an aggressive fashion for Punjab. Whacked 23 in only 12 balls, hitting two fours and as many sixes.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa (9/10): Played a whirlwind knock. Top-scored with 50 off only 29 balls for PBKS. Smashed five fours and two sixes to put Punjab in a commanding position with the bat.

Jitesh Sharma (6.5/10): Cracked 21 in only 11 balls. Ensured Punjab did not lose momentum. Hit one four and two sixes in his innings.

Shahrukh Khan (5.5/10): Hit two fours in his unbeaten 11 off 7 balls.

Sam Curran (7.5/10): Played a fine cameo. Struck two sixes in his unbeaten 26 off 17 balls. Was expensive with the ball, but got the big wicket of Andre Russell.

Sikandar Raza (5.5/10): Scored 16 off 13, with the help of a four and a six. Dismissed KKR skipper Nitish Rana with the ball.

Nathan Ellis (5/10): Bowled the dangerous Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Finished with figures of 1/27 from three overs.

Harpreet Brar (4/10): Bowled one over for seven runs without claiming a wicket.

Rahul Chahar (6/10): Dismissed Rinku Singh cheaply. Registered figures of 2/12 in two overs.

Arshdeep Singh (9/10): Was the standout bowler for PBKS. Sent back Mandeep Singh, Anukul Roy, and Venkatesh Iyer.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Rahmanullah Gurbaz (6/10): Got a good start, but did not kick on. Was bowled for 22 off 16 by Nathan Ellis.

Mandeep Singh (1/10): Perished cheaply to Arshdeep Singh. Was back in the hut for 2.

Nitish Rana (6/10): Looked good in his first outing. Reached 24 before falling to Sikandar Raza.

Rinku Singh (1/10): Could not make an impact. Was out for a run-a-ball 4 to Rahul Chahar.

Andre Russell (8/10): Kept KKR’s hopes alive in the chase. Clobbered 35 in 19 balls with the aid of three fours and two sixes.

Shardul Thakur (2/10): Had a poor game with the ball. Went for 43 runs in his four overs without claiming a wicket.

Sunil Narine (3.5/ 10): Picked up the wicket of Sikandar Raza, but went for 40 in his four overs.

Tim Southee (3/10): Dismissed Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma, but went for 57 runs in his four overs.

Varun Chakaravarthy (7/10): Was Kolkata’s most economical bowler in the match. Gave away only 26 runs in his four overs. Got the wicket of Punjab captain Shikhar Dhawan, cleaning him up for 40.
