In the Super 12 match against Afghanistan, Babar scripted the record of becoming the quickest to 1,000 T20I runs as captain. Babar achieved the tally in just 26 innings and broke the record of Kohli, who had set the record in 30 innings. Against the Afghans, Babar smashed a 47-ball 51 for his side.
