Delhi Capitals (DC) will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 25 of IPL 2021 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad tonight. DC have won four of their six games so far and are in the third position on the points table. They, however, suffered a close one-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their last game. On the other hand, while KKR are at number five with two wins and four losses, they managed to get the better of Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their last game with a good all-round show. KKR will be keen to build on the momentum against DC. With KKR taking on DC in Ahmedabad, here are three player battles to watch out for.
- Shikhar Dhawan vs Prasidh Krishna
DC opener Shikhar Dhawan has failed in the last couple of games and that has hurt the team’s fortunes to an extent. While the law of averages might have caught up with Dhawan in the last couple of games, the left-hander would be keen to get back among the runs. He would be very much aware that he is at the peak of his form at the moment. As such, Dhawan would want to make the best of it.
Prasidh Krishna has had an unpredictable ride in IPL 2021. He went for quite a few in the matches against Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. However, Krishna came back with a bang against PBKS. He claimed 3 for 30 and ripped through the batting line-up. It was the kind of bowling effort the franchise had been expecting all along from Krishna. Against DC, he will face a tough tussle against the in-form Dhawan. Can he find a way to win the battle?
2. Rahul Tripathi vs Amit Mishra
On his day, KKR batsman Rahul Tripathi can be an entertaining game-changer with the bat. Over the past few years, and twice during this IPL, he has proved that. After kicking-off the season with a whirlwind half-century against SRH, Tripathi has returned among the runs in the last few games. He made a hard-fought 36 against RR, but it was his swift 41 against PBKS that was more the Tripathi kind of innings.
DC leggie Amit Mishra has done well in the few games he has played so far. After being not picked for a few matches, the spinner made a superb return, claiming 4 for 24 in a match-winning effort against MI. It was a typical Mishra performance, bamboozling well-set batsmen and forcing them to play false strokes. Against SRH and RCB too, he chipped in with one wicket each while not going for too much. Tripathi is someone who loves to go on the attack. But can he manage to stand up to the guile of Mishra?
3. Shimron Hetmyer vs Pat Cummins
DC batsman Shimron Hetmyer hadn’t done much up until the game against RCB. But, he gave Virat Kohli’s men a real scare with a scintillating innings. He smashed an unbeaten 53 in only 25 balls, with the aid of two fours and four massive sixes as RCB were stunned. Unfortunately for DC, Hetmyer’s brave innings could not pull them over the line. But the knock should boost the batsman’s confidence going ahead.
Pat Cummins recently turned a hero in India when he announced a donation for purchasing oxygen supplies for the Indian hospitals. A noble cause no doubt and kudos to Cummins for the same. On the field though, he is yet to deliver anything heroic with the ball. He did produce a stunner with the bat against CSK, but he is more in the team for his batting. On his day, Cummins is capable of blowing the best away. He did well against PBKS, claiming a couple of key wickets. Towards the end of the innings, Hetmyer will look to attack him and get quick runs if the contest happens. Who will come out on top in that case?
