Form teams Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will clash in match 22 of IPL 2021 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Both teams have been dominant in the tournament so far with four wins from five matches. DC featured in a pulsating encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), eventually winning the match in the Super Over. As for RCB, they tasted their first defeat, going down to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their previous encounter by 69 runs. A close contest could be on the cards as DC face RCB. Ahead of the big clash, here are three player battles to watch out for.
- Devdutt Padikkal vs Avesh Khan
This could be billed as the clash of the next generation of Indian cricket. While Dedvutt Padikkal has been in supreme touch with the bat over the last couple of months, Avesh Khan has been a surprise success story for DC in the pace bowling department. As such it would be interesting to watch the tussle between the two youngsters. Depending on who performs better, Devdutt Padikkal or Avesh Khan could set the tone of the match as they would be clashing upfront.
Padikkal got a stunning hundred against RR and looked in excellent form against CSK as well before losing his wicket against the run of play. As for Khan, he has constantly been among the wickets in almost every game. More often than not, when the team has wanted a wicket, Rishabh Pant has turned to Khan, and he hasn’t disappointed so far. It is important for Khan to be at his best against a rampant Padikkal.
2. Prithvi Shaw vs Mohammed Siraj
While Shikhar Dhawan has been the standout performer for DC with the bat, Prithvi Shaw too has been highly impressive as the other opener. While he has not always got the big scores, he has scored at a very quick pace. Against SRH, he came up with a fluent century on a day when Dhawan struggled a bit with his timing. At the end of the day, the knock proved to be a crucial one for DC. He will be high on confidence heading into the clash against RCB.
Carrying on from his success with the Indian team, Mohammed Siraj has continued his good run for RCB, the franchise that brought him into national prominence. Siraj claimed 2 for 25 against SRH and then picked up 3 for 27 against RR. Even when he has not been among the wickets, Siraj has made an impact with his potency and ability to unsettle batsmen. Shaw will face a major test when he comes face to face with Siraj.
3. AB de Villiers vs Amit Mishra
AB de Villiers was completely bamboozled by Ravindra Jadeja as RCB were outclassed in the game against CSK. But ABD’s confidence will not be one bit dented. Every year, he recovers from such dismissals and comes up with some incredible knocks. This season, he has already played two – one against MI and the other against KKR. Having seen de Villiers over the years in the IPL, he will be keen to stamp his authority all over again when RCB face DC.
Veteran leggie Amit Mishra has made a fantastic return to the IPL after missing out most of the season last year due to injury. He proved that he still has it in him to be a match-winner in the contest against MI, claiming a game-changing four-for. In the pulsating contest against SRH, he smartly outfoxed Kedar Jadhav and had him stumped. Mishra would have seen ABD struggle against Jadeja. But, he would also be aware that de Villiers is a class player. If these two players do battle it out against each other, it should be a clash of equals.
