It will be the clash of the titans as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in match 19 of IPL 2021 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. CSK and RCB are two of the form teams in the tournament. After going down to Delhi Capitals (DC) in their opening encounter, CSK have gone on to defeat Punjab Kings (PBKS), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their most recent three matches. Two weeks after the tournament, RCB are the only side who are undefeated in the tournament. They trounced RR by 10 wickets in the last game. Here are three player battles to look forward to in the CSK v RCB clash on Sunday.

1. Devdutt Padikkal vs Deepak Chahar

RCB opener Devdutt Padikkal was sensational against RR, with a century in super quick time. He looked in supreme touch and even outshone his captain during their record partnership. Padikkal went into the IPL after ending as the second leading run-scorer in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, next only Prithvi Shaw. He missed the first match for RCB as he was recovering from the after-effects of COVID. In the next couple of games, he did not look in great touch. However, his hunger for a big score was evident in his knock against RR, as he came out all guns blazing.

CSK pacer Deepak Chahar has two four-fors to his name in the tournament so far. He was unplayable against PBKS and then also ran through the KKR top-order with four scalps. Chahar has been a massive asset for CSK at the top of the order. He often picks up these match-turning three or four-wicket hauls. If not, he at least keeps things tight more often than not. With the kind of form that he is in, Padikkal will definitely look to take on Chahar in what could be a key battle in the match.

2. Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Mohammad Siraj

CSK kept backing Ruturaj Gaikwad even after he looked totally out of sorts in the first three games. Gaikwad repaid the faith with a scintillating knock against KKR at the top of the innings. Even as Faf du Plessis ended up making a sizzling 95 not out, it was Gaikwad who provided the early momentum for CSK in the match. The team would be pleased with Gaikwad’s return to form. He would now want to continue the good rhythm.

At the start of the innings against RCB, Gaikwad will face a fresh challenge against Mohammed Siraj. While Siraj bowled a few incisive spells for RCB even before making his India debut, he has been a completely different bowler having gained some international experience. His confidence too is on a different level now. The numbers may not justify it, but he has looked dangerous for sure. Siraj will fancy his chances against Ruturaj.

3. AB de Villiers vs Ravindra Jadeja

That AB de Villiers is a dangerous big hitter is a given. The worry for opponents is, like old wine, he just seems to be getting better with age. He has already played two dazzling knocks in IPL 2021. His 48 in the opener went a long way in RCB upsetting MI. He then smashed a brutal 76 not out against KKR off just 34 balls as RCB put up a massive total on board and won the game easily. He could hold the key to RCB’s fortunes against CSK as well.

In case ABD gets going, it might need something magical by CSK to see the back of him. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja produced an unplayable delivery to get rid of the well-set Jos Buttler in the game against RR. Jadeja has the knack for producing some game-changing balls. If he comes across de Villiers at the other side on Sunday, he would look to produce something spectacular again. A battle to wait and watch this.
