Decoding the Probable XI of Delhi Capitals IPL 2023
DC missed out on the playoffs last season based on NRR, and this time they need to further up the game and showcase credentials.

Delhi Capitals boast one of the most sorted squads in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. DC will not have Rishabh Pant available, but in David Warner, they can find that bundle of experience in leadership. DC had a good IPL 2023 auction as they roped in quality foreign stars to bolster the batting. Rilee Rossouw is the chief attraction, and there is also Phil Salt.

DC will rely on Warner and Prithvi Shaw upfront. Rossouw can be a game-changer alongside Mitchell Marsh. With no specialist Indian keeper, we might see Sarfaraz Khan taking the role.

DC’s main strength is bowling. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Lalit Yadav boast a quality trio. The pace-bowling department has the desired quality with both foreign and Indian players in the ranks. Anrich Nortje, Mustafizur Rahman, and Lungi Ngidi are seasoned international bowling stars.

Breaking down DC’s probable XI

Prithvi Shaw: Prithvi Shaw will look to put his recent controversy behind him and respond well with the bat. A fearless opener, Shaw can set the ball rolling for DC with his explosive knocks. Shaw had a superb IPL 2021 season but couldn’t find his rhythm last year, scoring just 283 runs from 10 games. He can form a partnership with veteran David Warner and help DC start well.

David Warner: The senior Aussie batter has been one of the leading performers of the IPL over the years. Warner made a comeback to the game in the just concluded 3rd ODI versus India after suffering an elbow injury last month. He has been given the duty to lead DC, and fans will be excited as he can bring his experience and match-winning attributes into play.

Mitchell Marsh: He can be the desired match-winner for DC. Marsh had a dream ODI series versus India, scoring 81, 66*, and 47 and helping his side win 2-1. In 8 games for DC last year, he smashed 253 runs. Marsh is also a quality pacer and can give DC the bowling depth they require.

Rilee Rossouw: The SA left-handed batter finished as the 3rd-highest scorer in Pakistan Super League 2023 season, hammering 453 runs. He will be keen to extend his form in the IPL and showcase his strengths. Notably, Rossouw has smashed 7656 runs in the 20-over format at 30.87. He made his last IPL appearance back in 2015.

Manish Pandey: A versatile player, Manish Pandey has represented several franchises in the IPL. DC acquired him in the IPL 2023 mini-auction, and he could fit in straight into the side. Pandey has 3648 runs in the IPL, having played 160 games. He got limited opportunities last season at LSG, scoring 88 runs from six games.

Sarfaraz Khan: Sarfaraz Khan could don the keeping role this season. A terrific FC cricketer, Sarfaraz hasn’t quite been able to stamp his authority in the IPL. He scored 91 runs from six games last season. Sarfaraz will hope for an extended run and showcase his mettle. His cameos could prove to be handy.

Axar Patel: Indian all-rounder Axar Patel will need to don the role of a finisher. He has improved his batting of late for India across formats. His left-arm spin will aid DC. He enjoyed a strike rate in excess of 150 last season with the bat. A veteran of 101 IPL scalps, Axar is one of the main assets in this DC side.

Kuldeep Yadav: Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav got a second lease of life regarding his India chances after a solid debut season with DC in IPL 2022. The former KKR player had his best IPL season, claiming 21 scalps. He impressed in the just concluded India vs Australia ODI series.

Anrich Nortje: The SA speedster will lead DC’s attack this season. He played just six and 8 games in the last two seasons. He missed the first half of IPL 2021 and had injury issues last season. With his sheer pace and substance, Nortje, who has 43 IPL scalps, can cause serious damage to opponents.

Khaleel Ahmed: A quality left-arm pacer, Khaleel Ahmed could prove to be decisive with his subtle variations in play. He has what it takes to be an able support cast to Nortje. In 10 games last season, Khaleel claimed an impressive 16 scalps. Overall, the former SRH pacer has 48 wickets in the IPL.

Mukesh Kumar: Bengal pacer Mukesh Kumar was bought for a whopping 5.5 crore in the IPL 2023 mini-auction, and he could make his IPL debut. It remains to be seen how the experienced pacer goes about his job. DC do have Chetan Sakariya as an able replacement on the bench for Kumar.
