Delhi Capitals opening batter Shafali Verma credited skipper Meg Lanning for her match-winning knock against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Women’s Premier League 2023. She was nervous in the beginning but Lanning helped her to calm down nerves.
Verma and her opening partner were in an aggressive mode and added 162 runs for the opening wicket. Verma top scored 84 off 45 balls, hitting 10 boundaries and four maximums as Delhi Capitals accumulated 223 in 20 overs.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, the 19-year-old revealed, Meg suggested her to bat with responsibility and it calmed her nerves.
“I was nervous at the start of my innings. The experience of playing with Meg Lanning was good as she is my good friend. We played good shots and according to our strengths,” she said.
Jemimah Rodrigues and Marizanne Kapp added 60 off 31 deliveries to provide the finishing touches. Tara Norris took 5 wickets for Capitals as they restricted Mumbai to 163/8.
