Aakash Chopra said the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup in India will not be interesting if the games are played on placid surfaces.
The Men in Blue scored 385 and won the final ODI by 90 runs as the Kiwis were bowled out for 295 runs.
“If ODI cricket is played on such pitches, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will score a lot of runs. The day they are dismissed early, Virat Kohli will destroy you. These pitches are not great for cricket,” he said on his YouTube channel.
The former India player feels high scoring totals are not good for the game.
“If you only want hitting, you will prepare such pitches. It is not good as when the World Cup happens here, 400 runs will be scored easily. 400-run game is not a great contest,” he added.
“If you see the last six matches against Sri Lanka and New Zealand- Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad and then here – you are reaching close to 400. The World Cup matches will happen here and India will start as favourites but the games might not be interesting.”
