Virat Kohli struck his 5th 150+ ODI score on Sunday, January 15, as he amassed 166 (110) against Sri Lanka in the 3rd and final ODI of the series.
Virat brought up his 46th ODI ton and is three centuries away from levelling Sachin’s record for most ODI hundreds. The debate and comparisons between Sachin and Virat faded when the 34-year-old went through a three-year-long century drought. However, Kohli re-instated the comparisons as he has scored 3 ODI hundreds in his last four innings.
With just three centuries left to level the record, the question has changed from, ‘will he? ‘ to ‘when will he?’. India legend Sunil Gavaskar, when asked the same, made his prediction as to when will Kohli break Sachin’s record.
Gavaskar made a bold claim and said that Virat can achieve the feat before the start of the IPL, as India will play 6 ODIs before the start of India’s premier domestic tournament.
“He is in a super form. We have three matches against New Zealand and three against Australia. So, in 6 games, all he needs is three centuries. There is no reason not to believe that he will do the same before the start of the IPL.”
