Adam Gilchrist and Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma overtook Gilchrist's run tally in ODIs

In the ongoing first ODI between India and New Zealand, the Men in Blue got off to a blistering start, as the openers, again, stitched a fifty-plus opening stand and provided the two times world champions with a perfect start.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored 60 runs in 12 overs before skipper Rohit Sharma threw his wicket away and departed for 34(38), which included four fours and two sixes.

Despite quick fiery innings, Sharma scripted two milestones. Firstly, he surpassed MS Dhoni’s record for most sixes in India. With two sixes in this match, Sharma has 125 sixes in India, two more than MS.

Secondly, Sharma overtook Australia legend Adam Gilchrist’s run tally in ODIs. After the innings, Sharma has scored 9630 runs in 239 matches at an average of 48.63. Meanwhile, Gilchrist has 9619 runs in 287 games, which includes 16 hundred and fifty-five fifties.

Rohit is now eyeing to become the 6th Indian after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli to score 10,000 ODI runs.

Rohit has changed his approach since opening the innings with Shubman Gill. In the last four innings, the duo has scored three fifty-plus opening stands.
