Former India player Mohammad Kaif was recently asked whether Rohit Sharma was the right choice to replace Virat Kohli as India’s all-format skipper. The veteran said that Rohit has done well as a captain, and the expectations of winning the ICC trophy have raised this question.
“Rohit has done well as a skipper. Apart from the Asia Cup and World Cup, it was the same with Virat. When Kohli was leading India, people thought we needed to win the ICC events as there were no trophy wins. The same is happening with Rohit, and fans are disappointed. But overall, his record is impressive,” he said.
“In the ICC T20 World Cup, we won four matches. There are ups and downs. South Africa lost to the Netherlands, while Ireland defeated England. India played well apart one bad game against the Jos Buttler-led team. Rohit is doing his job, and it is early days to pass on a verdict on his leadership,” he added.
