Rishabh Pant injured
Rishabh Pant likely to be ruled out of the 2023 World Cup

Rishabh Pant, who, after a fatal car crash, was admitted to Max Hospital in Dehradun, was airlifted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital on Wednesday, where the BCCI doctors took over.

Pant was returning home from Delhi for New Year when he ramped his car on a divider, where he sustained severe injuries, before being rescued by four people, who took Pant to the hospital.

After scans in the Uttarakhand Hospital, it was revealed that Pant suffered a ligament tear in his right knee, for which he was shifted to Mumbai. He was ruled out of action for 3-6 months. It was said the 25-year-old will miss the entire IPL season.

However, in the latest development, the doctors feel that Pant requires a minimum of 8-9 months to recover from the injury, meaning the southpaw will miss the 2023 Asia Cup and the all-important World Cup.

A BCCI source revealed the news to Inside Sports and said that Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala examined Pant and stated that no surgery will be done till swelling comes down as the tear is severe.

“A clear picture will come in 3-4 days, but the ligament tear is severe. Also, looking at the nature of a wicket-keeper, Pant will require a minimum of 8-9 months to recover.”

India will host the 2023 World Cup in October, and it will be the first edition to be entirely played in India.
