Ravichandran Ashwin and Kapil Dev
Ashwin became India's 3rd leading wicket-taker

In the ongoing third match between India and Australia, the Indian bowlers made a remarkable comeback as they restricted the Aussies to 197. The visitors were comfortable in the game, but because of Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav’s scintillating spells, they went from 186/4 to 197/10.

Ashwin provided India with the first breakthrough of the day, as a stunning catch by Shreyas Iyer got rid of Peter Handscomb. A few overs later, he took his 2nd wicket of the innings when he trapped Alex Carey in front of the wickets.

With that dismissal, Ashwin scripted history as the 36-year-old off-spinner surpassed 1983 World Cup winner Kapil Dev’s international wicket tally to become India’s third leading wicket-taker.

Ashwin also took the final wicket of Australia’s innings and took his international wicket-tally to 689, two more than Kapil Dev. The right-arm off-spinner has 689 scalps in 269 matches and took 87 fewer matches than Dev, who has 687 wickets in 356 games.

Ashwin is now only behind Harbhajan Singh (707) and Anil Kumble, who is India’s leading wicket-taker with 953 wickets.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing Test, India trail by 88 runs and the winner of the match will qualify for the World Test Championship Final.
