PBKS have been dealt a significant setback, as captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed during the toss on Wednesday that Glenn Maxwell has suffered a fractured finger and will be unavailable for the rest of the IPL 2025 season. Iyer also emphasized that PBKS have yet to finalize a replacement for Maxwell. “It’s very unfortunate that he’s got a fractured finger,” Iyer said.
“Honestly, we haven’t made any decisions on replacement yet, but we’re confident about the strength and the depth of our squad. We have players who are capable of winning matches, so we’ll stick with that approach for as long as possible,” he had said.

Earlier, Punjab had to deal with Lockie Ferguson’s injury. Iyer’s team hasn’t named his replacement yet. “At some point, we will be bringing in replacements,” Ricky Ponting said.
“We’ve still got a few games left. We’re continuing to assess our options. Azmatullah Omarzai, Aaron Hardie, and Xavier Bartlett are with us. It’s all about the conditions, and when we go to Dharamsala, Bartlett will be in the mix as the conditions there could suit him, with the ball potentially swinging and bouncing more,” Ponting added.
“We’ve been patient with our approach. Maxi has only been with us , while Lockie was ruled out. Given the PSL’s timing, there aren’t many top-quality replacements available, so we’ve taken a cautious approach. We’re also keeping an eye on Indian talent, evaluating potential roles for younger players from India. We’re bringing a couple of these guys to Dharamsala with us for a closer look. They trained with us in New Chandigarh, and if they impress, they could secure a contract with Punjab moving forward. We have to make our decisions this week, before our 12th game, so stay tuned.”
