PCB to now report to PM office

New Delhi: Big developments occured at the Pakistan Cricket Board recently as it has been placed under the PM office from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination. With this move, the board will report directly to the PM office bypassing the ministry.

The PCB will now fall directly under the Cabinet Division, which ultimately places it under the Prime Minister’s Office. This move is seen as a fundamental shift in governance and gives more autonomy to the board.

The decision has been made amidst rumors of restructuring and reform within the cricketing body. The PCB will no longer be accountable to the Ministry, and the Secretary of the Inter-Provincial Coordination Ministry will no longer hold a seat on the PCB’s Board of Governors.

Furthermore, Mohsin Naqvi, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. This significant change follows the resignation of Zaka Ashraf, the former Chairman of the Management Committee of the PCB.

Things are not well with the PCB since Pakistan’s early exit from ICC World Cup 2023. Firstly, former skipper Babar Azam regisned from his duties and the board opted for multiple captains for various formats. Following the decision, they hired Mohammad Hafeez as the team’s director and interim head coach. However, he was roped in for the role with a promise of long run, but since PM’s office were unhappy with Hafeez’s work, the PCB did not offer a long-term contract to him.

Recently, Hafeez too stepped down from his role and criticised the board over its methods.
