Ramiz Raja was sacked as the chairman of PCB, with Najam Sethi replacing him. Shahid Afridi was named the chief selector with fellow former cricketers Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum joining the selection committee.

The changes were made after Pakistan’s 0-3 defeat against England. Babar Azam-led team has earlier lost to Australia by a margin of 0-1. During Raja’s tenure, Pakistan qualified for the final of the Asia Cup 2022 and the ICC T20 World Cup.

The former chairman said that Pakistan performed exceptionally well that forced India to make changes.

“We defeated India in the Asia Cup and reached the final. India were eliminated. We also played in ICC T20 World Cup final. They fired their selection committee and even changed the captain. Unko hazam nahi hua ki Pakistan unse kaise aage nikal gaya,” he said on Suno TV.

Talking about his sacking, he said: “This is like France firing their entire board even after playing in the FIFA World Cup final.”

“I tried my best and gave powers to Babar Azam. Cricket is one of the sports where captaincy is relevant. If captain is powerful, results will come.”
