Former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell said that Virat Kohli’s poor shot selection resulted in his downfall on Day 2 of the ongoing Test between India and Australia in Nagpur on Friday, February 10.
Kohli lost his wicket to debutant Todd Murphy while trying to play a flick shot on a leg-side delivery. He got a faint edge and was caught by Australian wicket-keeper Alex Carey after scoring 12.
Chappell said the former India captain should have played the ball on the on side instead of tickling it down to fine leg.
“Why the hell Virat Kohli played that shot? He should have hit it towards the on side away from the fielder. I would hang myself if I get caught in that area. As a right-handed batter, you should never get caught there.”
While Virat, Cheteshwar Pujara and Suryakumar Yadav were not among the runs, Rohit Sharma scored a century. Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel registered half-centuries to take India to 321/7.
