Quinton de Kock
South Africa wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock is enjoying returning to play for the team in white-ball cricket, but the veteran has refused to compete in Test cricket.

Quinton de Kock‘s outstanding performance in the World Cup 2023 has left his teammate, Heinrich Klaasen, heartbroken over the decision to retire from ODIs after the tournament. Despite de Kock’s announcement before the event, Klaasen expressed difficulty in convincing him otherwise.

De Kock’s stellar form includes three centuries in five World Cup matches. He is the current leading run-scorer with an impressive average of 81.40 and a strike rate of 114.97. His recent innings, scoring 174 runs from 140 balls against Bangladesh at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, earned him the Player of the Match award in a Proteas victory by 149 runs.

Klaasen, acknowledging the challenge of persuading De Kock to reconsider retirement, praised his teammate’s phenomenal contribution to South African cricket.

“It’s a challenge to persuade him to reconsider retirement. He’s been outstanding for our team and a tremendous asset to South Africa. It’s saddening to witness his departure, but we hope he exits on a positive note. His brilliance has been evident throughout the tournament,” Klaasen said Star Sports.

Faf du Plessis, also impressed by the team’s performance in the World Cup, expressed immense pride. The Proteas, with four wins in five games, currently hold the second position in the table. They have eight points and an impressive net run rate of +2.370.

“I take immense pride in our team’s performance. Observing these players, whom I’ve been alongside for a significant time, excelling in their current form, I’ve become a huge fan of watching them play,” du Plessis said.

Looking ahead, the Proteas aim to claim the top spot in the table in their upcoming match against Pakistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
