India have decided to leave out double centurion Ishan Kishan for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. The southpaw had slammed the fastest double hundred in the third and final ODI against Bangladesh. However, the management is keen to go ahead with Shubman Gill in the upcoming games.

Rohit Sharma lauded Ishan for his brilliant batting but said that Gill deserves more chances due to his overall track record in one-day internationals. “We have decided to play Shubman Gill in the ODIs as it is fair to give more chances to a player, who has done well in the past,” he said.

“I don’t want to take anything away from Ishan Kishan, who has been brilliant for the team. It is not easy to score a double hundred. He is one of the top players but I feel Shubman Gill should be given a long run” he added.

Former cricketers and fans have questioned the decision. Aakash Chopra took an indirect dig at former captain Virat Kohli and current skipper Rohit.

“It’s not often that you score a double-century and get benched in the following game. But then, Indian cricket had benched the triple-centurion in the next game too. Ishan today. Karun Nair back then,” he wrote.
