England players and some support staff members are down with food poisoning a day before the first Test between the two nations.

The visitors have requested the hosts’ board to postpone the opening game by a day to allow the players to recover from the infection.

Ben Stokes, the England captain, is among the seven cricketers who caught the bug before the match. Only Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Keaton Jennings, Ollie Pope, and Joe Root reported for the optional practice session conducted by coach Brendon McCullum.

“Talks are going in between Pakistan and England to postpone the starting date of the Rawalpindi Test by 24 hours. The reason under discussion is the health issues of the test squad of England, including Ben Stokes.”
