In a big surprise, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has not been included in the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) central contract list for 2025. The BCB announced the list on Monday, March 10. It seems he will not be considered for the future assignments, signalling the end of his career.
Meanwhile, veteran all-rounder Mahmudullah chose to opt out of the contract. He had earlier informed the BCB that he did not want to be considered after February 2025. However, the board still included him in the Grade B contract for two months.
Apart from Shakib, other players dropped from the contract list include Zakir Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Naeem Hasan, and Nurul Hasan. These players had a contract last year but failed to make the cut this time.
Taskin Ahmed Gets Top Contract
The BCB divided the contracts into five categories. Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed was the only player to receive the highest Grade A+ contract.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was placed in Grade A, along with Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Litton Das, and Mushfiqur Rahim. Mushfiqur recently retired from ODIs after the Champions Trophy 2025.
Young fast bowler Nahid Rana, who impressed with his performances, could only secure a Grade B contract.
Soumya Sarkar and Shadman Islam made a comeback to the contract list after being left out in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Both players were placed in Grade C.
The lowest Grade D contracts were given to only two players, Nasum Ahmed and Khaled Ahmed.
Salary Structure of Central Contracts
• Grade A+: 10 lakh taka
• Grade A: 8 lakh taka
• Grade B: 6 lakh taka
• Grade C: 4 lakh taka
• Grade D: 2 lakh taka
A total of 22 players were awarded central contracts this time.
Bangladesh’s Recent Performances
Bangladesh had a disappointing campaign in the Champions Trophy 2025. They lost to India and New Zealand. Their final match against Pakistan was washed out due to rain.
