After Harsha Bhogle, former India player and head coach, Ravi Shastri, has urged Virat Kohli to skip the last ODI against New Zealand and instead participate in the Ranji Trophy to prepare for the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia.
India will qualify for the final of the ICC World Test Championship if they beat the Pat Cummins-led team. However, if they lose, Australia will take on South Africa in the title shot match.
Meanwhile, Virat is not in the squad for the T20I series against the Kiwis, which will start after one-day internationals.
Earlier, Harsha suggested the same thing to Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
“I really think it will be a good idea for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to play the Ranji Trophy starting on the 24th instead of the last ODI. At the moment, the multi-format players tend to go straight from white ball cricket into test cricket,” he wrote.
