India National Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir is facing flak after the team lost 0-3 in the Test series against New Zealand. According to Cricket Addictor and MyKhel, the current coach might only head the support staff in white-ball cricket.

New Zealand won the opening Test in Bengaluru by 8 wickets. They registered a 113-run win in the second victory in Pune. In the third and final game in Mumbai, the Kiwis thumped the hosts by 25 runs.

Gambhir asked for the rank-runners after losing the first contest, and his instructions were followed. He also played a role in selecting a few players for the upcoming Australia series. Despite agreeing to all his demands, the results have been disappointing. India also lost the ODI series against Sri Lanka by a margin of 0-2, their first defeat in 27 years.

Gambhir will be removed from the head coach position in red-ball cricket if India fail in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. “If things don’t work out in Australia, he is likely to be removed from the Test team,” a source close to the BCCI told MyKhel.

The source further claimed that VVS Laxman would be responsible for the Test team if India lost to Australia.

Laxman, who is the head of the National Cricket Academy, has been a part of the team as an interim coach on several occasions in the past.
