On Tuesday, July 4, BCCI announced that former India pacer Ajit Agarkar has been appointed as the new chief selector succeeding Chetan Sharma, who resigned after his sting operation video went viral.
Shiv Sundar Das, who was the interim chief selector, will leave the role, and Agarkar will take on his new position with an increased salary. Notably, Chetan Sharma received one crore per annum, while other members got 90 lakhs per annum.
Meanwhile, Agarkar had clearly stated his demands for an increased salary as he already earned more than a crore as Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach. In the revised salary, Agarkar will earn triple of what Sharma did and would receive a three crore salary per annum.
The precise details of the hike have not been finalised, but the decision will be made by the BCCI during their general council meeting on Friday.
Also, the apex cricket board ditched their old tradition to have selectors from all zones, as no notable figure applied for the role from the north zone, which resulted in the Roger Binny-led board having two selectors from West Zone( Ajit Agarkar and Sahil Ankola).
The former India pacer will lead the panel that includes Subroto Banerjee (Central Zone), S Sharath (South Zone), SS Das (East Zone), and Salil Ankola (West Zone).
