In a highly anticipated face-off in the BCCI age group tournament, the sons of cricket legends Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, Anvay Dravid, and Aaryavir Sehwag, showcased their skills as Karnataka took on Delhi in the Vijay Merchant Trophy National U-16 boys’ tourney in Andhra Pradesh.

The match, spanning three days, marked a rare occurrence in the last decade, featuring the offspring of two Indian cricket greats on opposing teams. Anvay Dravid, captaining Karnataka’s U-16 team and also serving as the team’s wicketkeeper, faced off against Aaryavir Sehwag, a dynamic opening batter for Delhi.

On Day 1, Anvay Dravid’s early dismissal for a duck contrasted with Aaryavir Sehwag’s unbeaten 50, adding excitement to the ‘Sehwag vs Dravid’ clash. Anvay, Rahul Dravid’s younger son and Karnataka’s captain and wicketkeeper, showcased his skills. Aaryavir, emulating his father’s aggressive style, gave the new ball a powerful strike.

The match unfolded at the Andhra Cricket Association Stadium in Mangalagiri, with Karnataka posting a total of 144 in 56.3 overs. Anvay, batting at No. 5, faced two deliveries before being bowled by Delhi’s Ayush Lakra, the team’s most successful bowler.

In response, Delhi dominated at 107 for 1 in 30 overs at stumps, with Aaryavir Sehwag’s impressive unbeaten 50 off 98 balls. Aaryavir’s shot-making and stance even drew parallels with his father. He hit a powerful six over deep square leg and seven fours, predominantly on the off-side.

The contest not only highlighted the talent of the next generation but also emphasized the weight they carry with their famous last names, setting the stage for their future impact in senior cricket.
