England defeated Scotland by 5 wickets to stay in contention for the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup. Tom Banton’s fifty-plus score took the team to a win in a chase of 153. When Phil Salt (2) and Jos Buttler (3) returned to the dressing room on a score of 13, the two-time champions were in big trouble.
Jacob Bethell and Banton took the team to safety, with the two adding 66 runs for the third wicket. Bethell posted 32 runs off 28 balls, laced with 2 boundaries and 1 six.
Sam Curran, the all-rounder, was also among the runs, amassing 28 runs off 20 balls, laced with 2 sixes and 1 four. Baton remained unbeaten on 63 runs off 41 balls, including 4 boundaries and 3 sixes as England reached the target in 18.2 overs.
Oliver Davidson (1 wicket), Brad Currie (1 wicket), Brandon McMullen (1 wicket), Brad Wheal, and Michael Leask (1 wicket) tried their best but couldn’t stop the England batters.
Earlier, Scotland batters had a tough time in the middle, with only four players, Richie Berrington (49 off 32), Michael Jones (33 off 20), Tom Bruce (24 off 18) and Oliver Davidson (20 off 15) touching the double-digit mark.
Adil Rashid dismissed three batters while Jofra Archer and Liam Dawson added two scalps each to their bowling figures.
Jamie Overton and Curran got rid of one batter each.
