Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 84 runs off 49 balls, laced with 10 fours and 4 sixes. Chasing 162, the rivals were restricted to 132/8 in the allotted 20 overs.
India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was not pleased with the performance of his batters in the first match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 against the USA. The host nation lost six wickets with just 77 runs on the board, and it took a special effort from SKY to take the score to 161/9, which led India to a 29-run win.
The Indian players were guilty of not assessing the conditions and the wicket before going for the shots, which resulted in their downfall.
“I was under pressure but I was smiling as I had the belief of scoring runs if I stayed till the end. I can make a difference. It was a different wicket,” Suryakumar Yadav said.
He warned the batters. “We can’t brush everything under the carpet, and we need to bat much better. I feel we could have batted better and smarter. You learn a lot even after winning the match. One of two partnerships could have taken our score to 160-plus easily. You can’t depend on one or two batters to bat till the end,” he added.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 84 runs off 49 balls, laced with 10 fours and 4 sixes. Chasing 162, the rivals were restricted to 132/8 in the allotted 20 overs, with Mohammed Siraj taking three wickets. Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel dismissed two batters each.
India are leading Group A after their success against the USA, with two points and a better net run rate. Pakistan are in the second place, having defeated the Netherlands in their campaign opener in Colombo.
