Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh hit out at Pakistan over its threat to boycott the T20 World Cup 2026 match with India, challenging the PCB to stick to its decision if it had the guts.
The highly anticipated Group A match between the two teams is scheduled for February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. However, the Pakistan government has made it clear that the Men in Green will participate the ICC event but won’t play India.
In response to the controversy, Harbhajan addressed the issue in his latest YouTube video.
“What do you hope to gain from this? It’s just an act of arrogance. If you truly believe you can go ahead with this threat, then stick to your stance. Let’s see if you really have the courage,” he said.
Harbhajan accused Pakistan of creating unnecessary noise. He called on the government to think about the fans who are longing for a match against India.
“This is all just a drama to make people believe they’re supporting Bangladesh. There’s nothing wrong with that, but have you considered the people in your own country who want the India-Pakistan match to take place?,” he added.
The T20 World Cup 2026 is set to begin on February 7, with Sri Lanka and defending champions India co-hosting the prestigious event.
Harbhajan Singh pointed out that Pakistan didn’t pull out of their Asia Cup 2025 encounters with India. Despite India being the original host for the continental event, it was eventually moved to the UAE.
He noted that the team went ahead with those games, even with the strained relations between the two countries.
“This match is meant to be held at a neutral venue, and there was no conflict. Despite the recent war, you still played in the Asia Cup. There was drama over the trophy, but the matches went ahead because you weren’t willing to miss out on that revenue. If you’re truly a patriot, where was your patriotism then? You didn’t show any concern for your own country, but now you want to support another,” he concluded.
