The ICC has announced the list of match officials for the group stage of the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to begin on February 7. Twenty-four umpires will oversee the action on the field, while six match referees will handle their duties from February 7 to 20. For the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash, seasoned umpires Richard Illingworth and Kumar Dharmasena will take charge as on-field officials.
The appointment of match officials for the Super Eight and knockout phases will be announced soon. For the opening match of the T20 World Cup between Pakistan and the Netherlands at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo, Kumar Dharmasena and Wayne Knights will officiate as the on-field umpires. While Knights is making his T20 World Cup umpiring debut, Dharmasena is no stranger to officiating at major global events.
With 37 T20 World Cup matches under his belt, including officiating in the finals of 2016 and 2022, the umpire is highly experienced. Knights will celebrate his 50th T20I as an on-field umpire when he takes charge of the PAK vs NED game.

The opening day will feature West Indies taking on Scotland at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, starting at 3 PM IST. Nitin Menon, known for his vast experience, and Sam Nogajski will be the on-field umpires. Menon officiated in the first semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024, while Nogajski was part of four matches, including India’s game against the USA.
