The crowd enjoyed the match as Sunrisers captain Stubbs and Breetzke added an unbeaten 114 runs for the fifth wicket to take their franchise to success, with six wickets in hand. Earlier, South Africa’s new sensation Dewald Brevis accumulated 101 runs off 56 balls to take Pretoria to 158/7.
The scoring rate of the Capitals was impacted when Brevis was dismissed on the second ball of the 19th over, and the West Indies international cricketer Roston Chase (4 not out off 9 balls), South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj (0 off 3 balls) and Lizaad Williams (0 not out off 1 ball) accumulated just three runs in the last 10 balls.
“I can’t explain, and I don’t know how we managed to win the match. I was in the middle with Matty, and we were panicking. We know we bat well together. We were looking for a way to get momentum. We got that in the 16th over, and we capitalise on it. You end up doing funny things under pressure,” Stubbs said after the win.
