Despite the request, the Bangladesh board said that the safety of the players, support staff and officials remains the top priority. Both the ICC and BCB agreed to continue discussions to solve the issue.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has once again refused to play their ICC T20 World Cup 2026 matches in India. In the latest meeting with the ICC, the BCB reiterated its stance of not travelling to India. A video conference was held between the two bodies on Tuesday to discuss the participation of Bangladesh in the global tournament, set to be played in India and Sri Lanka from February 7–March 8.

BCB President Md Aminul Islam, Vice Presidents Mohammad Shakawath Hossain and Faruque Ahmed, Director and Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee Nazmul Abedeen, and Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury were part of the meeting. The board requested the ICC to relocate Bangladesh’s national team matches to Sri Lanka due to safety concerns for the players.

The ICC informed the BCB that the schedule and itinerary had already been finalised and asked the officials to reconsider their position. Despite the request, the Bangladesh board said that the safety of the players, support staff and officials remains the top priority. Both the ICC and BCB agreed to continue discussions to solve the issue.

The tensions between the BCCI and BCB have escalated after Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was released from the Kolkata Knight Riders’ squad ahead of IPL 2026.

Bangladesh wrote to the ICC, requesting that their T20 World Cup matches be shifted from India to Sri Lanka.

BCB vice President Faruque Ahmed later highlighted that India and Pakistan compete in a hybrid hosting model in the ICC tournaments. Bangladesh has also banned the broadcast of the Indian Premier League in the country.

Earlier, the BCB issued a clarification after Bangladesh’s sports advisor Azif Nazrul claimed that the ICC had agreed to change the venue. The board stated that it has not received any communication from the ICC, saying that discussions are ongoing and no final decision has been taken.
