Virat Kohli wants to play the 2027 ODI World Cup and lift the trophy. He has retired from Test cricket and T20Is, but his hunger hasn’t diminished. He was a part of the 2011 World Cup-winning team and made important contributions with the bat in his first global tournament. The veteran suffered several heartbreaks over the years before winning the World Cup title in 2024. However, the aim of enjoying a success in the 50-over format for the second time is still keeping him going, along with Rohit Sharma.

“Virat Kohli has been superb across formats over the last decade. The way the Indian team won the World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar in 2011, the current team should also win the World Cup for Virat in 2027. He has not only made contributions for India but also for world cricket,” IPL chairman Arun Dhumal told journalist Vimal Kumar.

MS Dhoni’s team won the World Cup in 2011 after a gap of 28 years. It was Sachin’s sixth and last ICC event, and Kohli, along with other players, lifted the great man on his shoulders. “He carried the Indian team for 21 years, and it is time for us to carry him,” Kohli had said.

By the time the 2027 World Cup arrives, Kohli would have completed 18 years in international cricket. And if he continues to be among the runs like he was in the ODI series against South Africa, amassing over 300 runs in three matches, there is nothing that can stop him. Dhumal said that the same goes for Rohit, who has been one of the greats in white-ball cricket.

“Even for Rohit Sharma. He took some time to become a key player in Test cricket, but once he got the captaincy, he became consistent. He has been a rockstar in white-ball cricket. I feel as long as they want to play the way they are at the moment, no questions should be asked about their future,” he added.
