Lionel Messi’s highly anticipated visit to India has turned chaotic, with massive mismanagement overshadowing what was meant to be a historic moment for fans. At Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium, thousands of supporters erupted in anger after Messi appeared for only 22 minutes, leading to unrest, reports of fires being set inside the venue, and a complete breakdown of crowd control.

According to early reports, the VIP section was so overcrowded that general fans could not even catch a glimpse of Messi. The lap of honour was cancelled due to the unmanageable crowd on and around the stage, leaving spectators frustrated and feeling cheated after spending heavily for tickets.

This incident comes just months after the Bengaluru Chinnaswamy stampede scare, raising serious concerns about event management in major sporting events in India.

PTI now reports that the Governor has asked for strict action against the organisers, suspension of negligent police officers, and a refund of ticket money to fans.
