Sourav Ganguly, president of the Cricket Association of Bengal, visited Shubman Gill at Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital after India’s 30-run defeat on the challenging Kolkata pitch, which saw them go 0-1 down in the series.
Shubman Gill has been discharged from the hospital following treatment for a neck injury sustained during the opening Test against South Africa. The Indian skipper was unavailable for batting, with the hosts falling short by 30 runs while chasing a target of 124.
About an hour into the second day’s play, Shubman Gill made his way to the middle after Washington Sundar was removed by Simon Harmer. A sweep shot on the third ball he faced earned him four runs, but the stroke triggered noticeable discomfort as he held his neck. The physio gave him treatment, but the Indian captain soon headed back to the dressing room, opting to retire hurt with a neck spasm.
Following the conclusion of Day 2, the BCCI announced that Gill was sent to the hospital for medical checks, leading to his exclusion from the remainder of the game.
