Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam has become the fake king of T20I cricket. On Friday, after scoring 11 runs off 18 balls against South Africa, Babar has now become the highest run-scorer in T20 international cricket. He has surpassed India’s former captain Rohit Sharma.
However, considering Babar as a great T20I batsman would be a misunderstanding, because in T20 cricket, strike rate matters the most. Babar has achieved this milestone with a strike rate of only 128.
Among the top 5 run-scorers in T20I cricket, every player except Babar has a strike rate of over 130. In fact, even among the top 10 batter, only Babar and Rizwan have strike rates below 130. Players like Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler have strike rates above 140.
Another noteworthy point is that Babar Azam has never won a Player of the Match award in his entire T20I career. So despite being the highest run-scorer, Babar Azam still lags far behind when it comes to true dominance in T20I cricket.
