Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has lauded Rohit Sharma for his weight loss journey and drawn parallels between his latest transformation and the changes he implemented after being left out of the squad for the 2011 World Cup.
Bangar worked closely with Rohit during his stint with the Indian team. The veteran has lost 10 kilograms in a month and has been training under the guidance of Abhishek Nayar. “Rohit followed a strict regimen when he failed to make it to the squad in the 2011 World Cup,” Bangar told Star Sports.
“The exclusion impacted him, and we are seeing the same determination now. He was successful from 2012 to 2024, but people continued to target him for his fitness. He has now given a reply to his critics,” he added.
Bangar mentioned that Rohit wants to contribute to all departments of the game. “Rohit is hungry and fit. When you are not a captain, you have to field outside the 30-yard circle and dive around. Rohit is preparing himself for that challenge.”
Rohit was sacked from ODI captaincy with Shubman Gill getting the captain’s armband. He has already retired from T20Is and Test cricket, and his place in the ODI squad will depend on his performances in Australia.
