Legendary Bangladesh cricketer Mashrafe Mortaza and 90 others have been accused of inciting attacks during the recent political turmoil in the country.

The Bangladesh men’s national cricket team became an associate member of the ICC in 1977. They competed in six ICC Trophies, the leading ODI competition for non-Test-playing nations. They entered international cricket with the 1979 ICC Trophy in England. Bangladesh’s first one-day match was against Pakistan in the Asia Cup in March 1986.

The watershed moment in Bangladesh cricket came when they won the ICC Trophy in Malaysia in 1997. They qualified for their first Cricket World Cup in England in 1999. Bangladesh stunned the cricketing world by defeating Pakistan, causing the tournament’s biggest upset. Bangladesh also defeated Scotland in the ICC event. In June 2000, Bangladesh were granted full ICC membership.

They played their first Test match against India in Dhaka in November 2000. Bangladesh became the tenth Test-playing nation. Although they scored 400-plus in the first innings, they lost the match by nine wickets.
